I just received this, sent through an anonymous remailer

Hi. I'm an ex-reader of your livejournal, since you made it all private for whatever reason I can only imagine. I found you through the Japanese comm.

I will get right down to business: Where do you get off having the attitude you have at anime? Anime is just as valid a art form as anything else. Perhaps even more valid. You don't know how much work goes into making it so you have no right to criticice. Your attitude is very demeaning to students of the art as well. Maybe when someone asks for a translation of a difficult line you should... I dunno... HELP THEM?!!? People have dedicated their lives to studying this art and you're not making it any easier.

In short I think you have a LOT of thinking to do are very mistaken if you think you can properly honor Japan without accepting anime. I can't type Kanji on this computer but if I could I would give you a verbal lashing you wouldn't soon forget.

Don't bother trying to contact me. I won't hear your excuses.

My first reaction is that this is one of you playing a joke, but I just don't know any more

Anyway I've seen the error of my ways and realized that obsessive cartoon fans are indeed actually a form of monk and it is my civic duty to help them translate their rape comics so thank you anonymous stranger

I'M STUDYING ART, MOM

edit: I'd just like to make it clear that I have no problem with people wanting to watch Japanese cartoons just so long as they can shut up about it for at least four seconds now and then and don't decide it's a good idea to imbue lowest-common-denominator comic books about robots hitting stuff with an almost mythological level of significance. Plus I feel like it needs to be said that I don't think an entire country appreciates being recognized mostly for the Saturday morning cartoons they make for kids and slightly creepy adults

I don't know

Apparently they found me from this Japanese language community on LJ, but the most I've done there is told people that it's not a Pocky discussion board, so I guess they clicked on my name at random and saw one of my "Ha ha a guy at the college asked me to translate his lolibooks! Fat chance" posts and became horribly offended

It is just really tricky business thinking that obsessive anime fans are funny on the Internet, because half the Internet is obsessive anime fans

Actually this is in all likelihood one of the many random Internet strangers who has contacted me to try and talk me into translating them crappy big-eye comics and been refused because I have better things to do with my time such as getting paid to do largely the same thing

There is a pretty commonly-held idea that when you learn Japanese you have an OBLIGATION to the ANIME COMMUNITY to join a fansubbing group or something

and I haven't and the anime cops are just catching up with me

for the new definition of "autistic" wherein we pretend that disorders are made of loosely-defined symptoms and not tangible physiological conditions

that reminds me how sick I am of people using self-diagnosed Dis Orders to justify to themselves that they don't go outside

I like some things.

Other people think they suck.

If they do, that's their problem.

These are three simple principles and OH MY GOD there'd be a great deal less internet retardation if they were more widely accepted.

I must admit I stopped giving a rats ass about anime a long time ago. These days I have more fun watching Family Guy.
