Do Coat Hangers Sound As Good As Monster Cables?

If you are surprised please raise your hand

I bet those weren't even SHIELDED coat hangers made of oxygen-free copper

I know right

I'd like someone to test like a 30-foot run of cable versus a 30-foot run of lamp cord or something, since the capacitance and interference problems are going to kick in then. I want this not only to prove once and for all that Monster Cable isn't really any better, but also because I strongly suspect that Monster Cable actually has capacitance problems over long runs

in closing, lol

OH wait Slugbug says they have MONSTER CABLE DEMONSTRATION STATIONS at Circuit City now and you can A-B compare them and the NORMAL CABLE sounds all muffled and shit.

i'm sure they didn't just put a lowpass filter on the normal cable that would be sneaky and underhanded

i know, right

i am the sort of guy who insists on having lossless copies of his CDs, but I cannot wrap my head around the mindset which causes people to buy a $2000 power cord for their stereo because they're convinced it makes some obvious yet unmeasurable difference

I know an audiophile who imported at significant expense some Korean portable audio player because it's rumored to have a slightly higher quality amplification stage than the iPod or whatever (not hard to believe), and then proceeded to listen to it with two dollar earbuds

Figure that one out

See, I was going to do the lossless thing about 5 years ago but I didn't have enough disk space. Disk space has not grown as fast as my CD collection, or at least not enough to overtake how far ahead I was of disk space then. Blah.

I use the Nady QH560, which are always 2-for-$40 from musiciansfriend, and they're good enough for me. lol why do people assume "studio headphones" means "isolation headphones" missing the point champs.

Yeah I'm always pushing it on disk space it's a fun adventure

I use a few different sets of headphones to verify that my mixes don't totally fall apart on the sort of junk everyone else uses, but my main Listenin' Headphones are the Grado SR60s. Probably the best you can get for under a hundred bucks, and they rival quite a few of the more expensive ones as well (they for damn sure blow Sennheiser's $250 crap out of the water). That looks like a decent deal at Musician's Friend, though; I might have to get a couple of those just to Have Around next time I have some spare moneycash.

The few times I've considered actually giving a shit about how my music sounds I've checked laptop speakers, a few sets of headphones, and the car stereo. I used to use multiple sets of headphones a day because I'd leave one set of over-ear at home and work and use ear buds with my iPod on the bus. In a way it was nice because I'd totally notice different things about the music that way.

Also I totally had to run off in the middle of this comment because I rubbed my eyes and I had been handling habaneros like an hour earlier and yeah.

What you do with headphones, I used to do with hardware and operating systems. Yay testing everyone's software on OpenBSD, Solaris, IRIX and FreeBSD.

Lol, lol forever.
Besides, coat hangers are more useful than audio cables. I guess you could use an audio cable to hang yourself, but with coat hangers, you can hang other things such as coats also, and perform abortions too. I'd like to see Monster claim their cables have that kind of power!

Wait a second, I just got a brilliant business idea.
$2,000 COAT HANGERS!
They'd be, like, made out of gold, and be sold in fancily-designed boxes, and possibly do some irrelevant shit with magnets maybe?

«Guaranteed to hang your coats substantially better than normal coat hangers if your normal coat hangers are wet twigs or live rodents

I'm so happy. I can listen to music through sub-standard
laptop speakers, and still be happy with the results.

...mind you, I can tell the difference between 128K mp3
and 192K. But anything past that is ok. HOWEVER, I did
backup all my CD's to FLACS stored on DVDR's.
