This reminds me of a friend of mine who is trolling a gay messageboard and calling Macintosh computers gay (in the South Park sense). He's one of those gay people who likes using the word in that sense ironically and I agree with him that using the word in that way isn't homophobic. Indeed much of the humour comes from the obvious ridiculousness of describing obviously asexual things as gay.

Indeed with me, it's got to the point where the dominant meaning of "gay" is "stupid" and if I want to talk about sexual preference I say "homosexual" instead because the word "gay" just isn't a clear indicator of such anymore. The meaning of the word just seems to be drifting in that direction, and considering that the "homosexual" meaning of gay was a drift in the first place one might as well just accept that "gay" is a word which likes to wander around the semantic space.

However, a lot of other people on the forum object to this, but what's hilarious is when the moderator pulls out his Credential Cock and says something to the effect of "If you say one more hostile or homophobic thing, I will pull out the banhammer on you. And don't try to put anything past me, because I've studied Queer Theory".

Needless to say, "Queer Theory" became the punchline for all our jokes for the rest of the day. What the hell kind of person brags about having spent several months and several thousands of dollars learning how to be righteously offended by stuff?
