this review is kiiiind of what I thought before I saw the movie minus all the negativity about the abortion issue because I hadn't heard anything praising that part but eh
overall I didn't identify with the movie a whole ton but I still found it entertaining cuz a lot of things piss me off way more than some Sabrina the Teenage Mom talking like she's Dennis Miller I understand other people not wanting to get over that though Dennis Miller is an annoying man
(1) I never said the movie was shit (2) if the elements described are described accurately, then this is sufficient information for me to predict that I would not like the movie (3) it's not hardly so much about IS THIS MOVIE GOOD OR NOT. IT IS A QUEST FOR OBJECTIVITY IN A LAND OF CONTRASTS. as it is about media which tries to Make a Social Statement and winds up being Harmfully Naive
what i'm saying though is how do you know it's accurate until you see it? maybe your opinion would differ. sure it was hyped beyond oblivion, but i like it for what it is.
well, in this case, i saw and heard about a movie and thought "hey, I'll bet that's stupid", and a friend confirmed my suspicions (and I have no reason to doubt the veracity of her claims)
i don't have to have seen it in order to draw attention to someone else's Social Commentary on it which I found interesting and which I think addresses a greater problem which doesn't really have anything to do with the movie
I liked Juno, and I also thought that it was somewhat subversive in that it addressed class issues in a somewhat more direct way than a lot of popular contemporary movies do.
Well, it's also a movie that seemingly every person in the world has seen, so if tgies wanted to see something else and consequently have some thoughts that not everyone else has had already, I wouldn't blame him.
its a shit review completely flawed due to the person not seeing it. Oh but they awknowledged this fact so thats okay! (no)
You can't criticise dialogue when you've not heard it and you can't complain about a lack of something when you've not seen it.
NO-ONE talks like they do in movies and TV, otherwise it'd be horrifically dull and boring. Complaining about stuff being "unrealistic" in both ways in which the reviewer does so is just fucking stupid. I'd hate to sit and watch Lord of the Rings with them or something.
It's not pro-life propaganda in the slightest. The whole thing shows a complete lack of understanding of whats going on at all, which isn't suprising. Most importantly, the person hasn't seen the fucking fantastic acting that threads it all together. Oh, and they don't seem to have understood that it's point is to provoke an emotional response, not "make sense".
I'd have thought you of all people would have been against people having uninformed opinions and expressing them that forthrightly.
i fail to see the difference between seeing something and not liking elements of it and having those same elements described to you and not liking them
also, having now seen it, I'd have to completely agree with the assessment that it's horrible. the acting is, IMO, total shit, as well -- every member of the cast has the same stupid smarmy personality. aaaaand yeah it comes off as pro-life propaganda at every turn
also, you just hit the "it doesn't have to make sense it's a movie" and "the characters don't have to be believable it's a movie" squares on Stupid Assessments of Fiction Bingo
there's a massive difference between "it doesn't have to make sense" and "it doesn't have to be realistic".
Pretty much any movie finds its characters in improbable situations, as does this, but you could hardly say it doesn't "make sense", thats totally different. Even if you think its bad its not Die Hard 4.
Her decision not to have an abortion is only anywhere near the plotline for about 5 minutes, and is pretty necessary for the "girl has to cope with having a baby" shit to play itself out.
acting's a matter of opinion, its silly arguing over it, but I thought Ellen Page was fantastic, personally.
Wait what i meant was "consensus is ellen page was good thus your opinion is void". NOW you can accuse me of using fatuous arguments. :)

maybe i just have a horrible taste in movies.
