I need a new 35mm camera. Sell me one? I had a Pentax K1000 about a thousand years ago, and I really liked that, so a K1000 or something similar would be cool. I'm not too picky, though. Pretty much doin' government work here.

If nobody can make me an offer, I'm probably just going to wind up buying a K1000 or two off eBay.

Right now I have some Canon piece of crap from the early 1990s and it doesn't work worth a damn in addition to which it has a trashy built-in lens and only automatic focus (the only thing automatic focus is good for is picking out the ultrasonic rangefinder and using it in a robot).

I do not want a digital camera. I have never liked them at all, except for Hey I Just Need to Get a Picture of This Real Quick purposes. I would have to drop $900 to get a digital camera approaching the quality of any random SLR I pick up for fifteen bucks at the thrift store. And fixed plastic lenses piss me right off. Sorry.

Man. So I love my long-running series of K1000s, but I finally bit the bullet and got something that used batteries for more than just light metering. I strongly suggest you pick up a Canon Elan 7. Almost the same hardware as the top-of-the-line Canon DSLRs, snappy, responsibe, sturdy, beautiful. I am also using a FED-2 right now, which is so not what you want. My K1000 is dead, but I will likely buy another though pawn shops always want $lol for any SLR, and it's not worth shipping costs. I am next likely to buy a Kiev-88 because who doesn't want an excuse to get into swappable backs and medium format for around $200!?

Also where were you N months ago. I had an EOS-300D to get rid of which I got like $100 for or something sad like that. I mean, digital, but nice enough.

[livejournal.com profile] tehslugbug says he's gotten K1000s from pawn shops for $50 before. I'm going to look around.

And yeah, I'd buy something like an Elan 7, but I don't feel enthusiastic about spending all that money right now. I think I'd like to get something cheaper just to noodle around with for now and buy one of the better Canons later.

I would definitely consider buying an EOS-300D. Those are really fucking nice, and I wouldn't complain about having a good digital camera around.

A K1000 shouldn't be more than $30 or so, depending on lenses. With an awesome or mint lens, then obviously something above $50 might become appropriate. I assume you're experienced in the ways of pawn and I don't need to explain to you how those prices work, but can if it's helpful. I paid $80 for my Elan 7, which is just about perfect for me. I've spent more on film in the last two weeks than the Elan 7. I need to get a better chemical storage system set up or soon I'll have spent more on developer, too. :/ The only downside to the Elan 7 is that EF lenses are still in great shape and costly; I can't go out and buy ten for $40 at a pawn shop like I could for any older mount. I mean, even with history back to 1987...it's just still expensive to buy lenses for. Humbug.

I suggest Amazon Marketplace for cameras. The pickings can be slim, but it's so less competitive than eBay, and shipping is more reliable. The big downside is you have to check 10 different miscategorizations for the item you're looking for in order to find the one you want to buy. I still don't know a good standalone used camera equipment store online and it saddens me. That said, Amazon frequently has stuff new for less than I'd pay a pawnbroker.

See, I was thinking Elan 7s ran about $200 to $250 or some shit. I clearly have no idea what I'm talking about. At $80, that's definitely an option.

Lenses are going to be a Thing, because the thing about me is I like to have about 4,050 lenses. I still have some of the K-mount lenses for my K1000 around.

$85 Elan 7

I have a weird mix of lenses and always have. To say nothing of the lens that came with my FED-2. I am so eager to get a Kiev-88. Want medium format. Grr.

haha, ding dang ding?

I almost needed a new body for a while, but I magically fixed the one I had. Haha.

The local camera people down here recommend this site, I plan on buying my video cameras from them when I start film in art school.

Beep boop.
