Anybody got a USB MIDI interface I can have for less than $40? Or better yet, less than $12, since it seems like I can get one on eBay for around that much? MIDI on my sound card is really unreliable, for some reason; it seems like it buffers everything in some terrible way and winds up gagging on SysEx messages and fast bits and stuff.

Also, I made a fun discovery recently: They killed MPU-401/MIDI UART support in Vista. Cute.

Seriously? No more simple serial midi interfaces under Vista? Lame!

it is pretty terrible!

one could maybe write a driver which directly twiddles bits at 0x330, but I don't know how Vista's memory protection would put up with that. I imagine someone would have done it if it was possible.

How fancy do you want? Isn't a new m-audio 1x1 USB-MIDI thing less than $40?

Yes, actually. $39 from Musician's Friend. "$40" is here defined as $39.

That's all I need, but it'd be cool if I could get one for less than $40, see.

I have an edirol USB to MIDI converter. I'll give it to you for $15, I don't have a use for it any more.
